Applied Behavior Analysis, otherwise known as ABA Therapy, is a scientific, evidence-based practice developed to understand behaviors. ABA therapy focuses on behavior modification and the enrichment of developmental skills.
ABA therapy follows principles of Positive Behavior Supports (PBS). There are three crucial elements of PBS.
ABA requires data collection procedures for all program goals. This will provide evidence of the progress that your child is making due to the ABA strategies and interventions that are put into place for your child.
ABA strives to reduce negative, challenging behaviors that are not socially appropriate, as well as to increase positive behaviors that are both socially and age-appropriate. This includes skills of communication, socialization and independence with daily living activities.
ABA therapy uses the least-restrictive methods necessary to diminish challenging behaviors that are impeding on the child’s quality of life and learning. Safety will always be priority for all to reduce and de-escalate challenging behaviors as quickly and safely as possible.
